Music and Gender

I dont know how on topic or off my idea of music and gender is, but im just going to shoot for the stars. The example i am going to be talking about comes from my favorite music artist in Rod wave. I chose hime because now and days a lot of male artists only talk/rap about a couple of things, harming people, committing crimes, how much money they have, and how many women they have or been with. but with Rod Wave as male artists he goes for a different approach and message in his songs. He mainly talks about the challenges he's faced in his life and how he's over come them after going through it for such along time, as well as rapping about love and how he feels about it. Alot of male artists definitely arent doing that anymore. But dont get me wrong there are some songs were he's doing the traditional male rapping topics , but 90% of the time its the more mellow and chill rod wave and thats the side of his music that attracts me.

This is a concept song of the Movie "Great Gatsby" that was featured on his most recent song. its very popular on social media. And alot of people think that rod wave just makes "depressed music" which is completely false if you ask me. he makes love songs and motivational music for people who have been through tough times and is trying to or has already gotten through it in my opinion. Because dont get me wrong i still listen to the modern rap music of my generation on the daily, but ill never get tired of just chilling out and listening to Rod Wave. And i will always suggest him to anybody.

Another Gender thing in music that i have noticed is lately the women rappers have been transitioning from talking about there previous/current men, and heartbreaks, to rapping and make music about the same thing that most male rappers rap about which is money, committing crimes, going out to parties, and how many "lovers" they have. Rappers in specific are Sexxy Redd, Mulatto, and Glorilla. They all make the same music with the same prowess and approach. A lot of the females my age and in my culture loves this type of music, and some of the males are starting to open up to it too. But me coming from the type of music i like , i just find it entertaining to react to how much other people like this type of music.

  2. Wow Von, I didn't even think about the ways women are changing their music styles in a more aggressive way over a more sensitive approach to music.

  3. I love that you noticed that women rappers are changing up the game a bit. I consider this a nod to the strong woman that is emerging amongst this type of music. The women rappers are confident and know they are equal. It is a great change.

  4. I had no idea that there were any rappers that made music the way that Rod Wave does. I know I've only really heard the other half of the Rap genre. I find it fascinating when music artist put their own struggles into their music, it makes them seem more relatable.

  5. Hi Von, it's cool that you took a more analytical approach and explored how new trends in music have changed the industry. I liked the lyrics in Rod Wave's song because they are unique and more intricate in my opinion than other songs that tend to follow what's popular.
